Brief Background
I am an Professor Emeritus of Finance, in the Department of Finance, at San Diego State University. I started in 1969 and officially retired in
July 2004. I am now teaching on a part-time basis.
My specialty is Corporate Finance. I have taught most of the corporate finances courses (undergraduate and graduate) offered by the
department at one time or another. As part of this area I also have interests in Managerial Economics and Business Forecasting.
I was chair of the Department of Finance from 1974 to 1988. I have been President of Western Decision Sciences Institute and
a vice-president of Financial Management International Association and the Decision Sciences Institute. Also a vice-President of the Financial Management Association.
I was pleased to receive the San Diego State University College of Business Administration Distinguished Faculty Award at the
1998 Monty´s Awards of Distinction. In 1995 I received the College of Business Administration Faculty Award at the College Honors Convocation for innovations in teaching and for sharing
that expertise with colleagues, and I have received the San Diego State University Outstanding Faculty Award six times. I also received the Tenth Anniversary Service Award from the Financial
Management Association.
My research has been published in a variety of journals including the Journal of Business, Journal of Financial and Quantitative
Analysis, Financial Analysts Journal and the Financial Review. I have served on the Editorial Board of Financial Practice and Education and as a reviewer for other journals.
I am a former faculty advisor to Alpha Kappa Psi, a leading coed
professional fraternity. I was also the original faculty advisor to the Finance and Investment Society. Both organizations are very active at San Diego State University.
My Doctorate and MBA are from University of Southern California and my Bachelors is from California State Polytechnic University.
